Genre Icon's and Backgrounds
#1
Last night I was trying to add some artwork for Genre (Both TV and Movie), but couldn't get it to work. I was putting the artwork in the following location at first...

C:\users\'username'\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons\skin.ace\media

I named the genre folders under media the following...

tvgenre
tvshowsgenre
moviegenre
genre

but none of the above worked (restarted XBMC after each attempt). I also tried various views, to make sure it just wasn't a particular view that wouldn't show the genre artwork.

The artwork I was using was from Xzener's fanart colletion (http://community.mediabrowser.tv/topics/...nse_type=9). The Xzener files are all .png format (not sure if XBMC needs .jpg to work correctly), but I tried a few .jpg files, and they didn't work either.

I then tried going into the TVShow genre (from the main menu), and brought up the Ace Menu at the top, selected Addons' and turned on Alternative Artwork (think that's what it was called), pointed to the folder I have my genre Icons, and this didn't work either.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug in Ace?

Apparently not yet implemented: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...ight=genre

Looking forward to when it is as it's the only downside of an otherwise awesome skin!

Has anyone managed to get their own genre icons working with ACE?

no , not really, only partial...
Some show, some still show the old ones
I posted the same question in the main ace topic (second last post there now)

Cheers Skank - Seems you have got it partially working though... How did you do to achieve that?

I cant remember exact path, but it s something like

C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\userdata\addon_data\skin.ace\icons_videogenre\

delete the ones that came with the extrapack
and put new ones instead

but it seems it does only work partially

If you download the extrapack already have icons and fanarts to genre, but you can use the "alternative mode" and use the art package that you want, simply activate the feature and specify the folder path.

Thanks guys.

I downloaded the extra pack from https://mod-skin.googlecode.com/svn/trun...rapack.zip (from the ACE FAQ thread). It doesn't appear to have the genre fanart only icons.

Exactly my thoughts! How can I display Genre fanart?

EDIT:

https://code.google.com/p/mod-skin/sourc....extrapack

Seems for fanart the folder has to be named "backgrounds_videogenre"

Ok backgrounds_videogenre seems to be the correct folder but it doesn't work for me. Genre Poster are displayed but no genre fanart - anyone with working genre fanarts can help?

EDIT:

Got it to work finally. At the end I had to place/create backgrounds_videogenre and icons_videogenre folders with images to:
"Userdata\addon_data\skin.ace.extrapack" folder. This seems to be the default location for ACE.
