So I realise this isn't a typical use case for XBMCbuntu, and the answer might just be 'impossible, bugger off' - but it seemed worth asking anyway.
I'm trying to get the leanest possible xbmc install running inside my ESXi environment so I can have an 'always-on' client for keeping my sql database updated.
I originally took a swing with the installation script here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=141369 - because it's my preferred method of installing on my HTPCs. That failed because the script only wants to do installs on amd/nvidia/intel hardware.
After that I tried xbmcbuntu. At first it looked good, but it gets as far as loading the default Confluence background (and the mouse cursor) before crashing to the xbmcbuntu login screen. It then tries to go back into xbmc, gets the Confluence background up again, repeats this cycle 3-4 times, then drops back to the login screen. From here I can go into the other login screen options, but attempting to fire up xbmc gets the same result as before.
Tried updating to 12.1 with the team-xbmc ppa, same result, only it takes a little longer on the confluence background each time around.
Full debug log here: http://paste.ubuntu.com/5664440/
If anyone has any suggestions for either fixing this or setting up some other method of updating my xbmc db from a virtual machine, they would be MOST welcome.
Thanks.
