DXVA2 & Windows 8
#1
Hi,

I have a new Intel "DC3217IYE" NUC running Windows 8 and I can't seem to get DXVA2 hardware acceleration to work with a progressive VC-1 Blu-ray rip.

I used MakeMKV to make a copy of my "Fast and Furious" Blu-ray disc.

On my Windows 7 E8500 with an ATI 4830HD GPU it uses DXVA2 and plays flawlessly. If I hit 'o' I can see 'dc:ff-vc1-dxva2'

On the Windows 8 NUC, it won't use the DXVA2 and on action scenes the vpcu hits 100% and I start dropping frames. If I hit 'o' I only have 'dc:ff-vc1'. Does the 4000 iGPU not support hardware acceleration of VC-1? I have the lastest bios, drivers, and version of XBMC. I should also note that DXVA2 acceleration works flawlessly with h264 on the NUC.

Is it:
Windows 8?
The video driver?
The HD 4000 iGPU hardware itself?
A combination of all 3?

This weekend I plan to try Windows 7 on the NUC, as well, possibly XBMCBuntu or openelec if I have time. I chose Windows 8 because I wanted access to Netflix, in the end, if I have to setup a dual boot, I will. (I just wish I had now purchased a larger SSD).

Thanks!
