Linux Random Crash 30 seconds after startup
#1
First off - the love - I just LOVE LOVE LOVE XBMC! This is so cool and has changed how we watch everything!. The second PC I setup I gave to the girlfriend and she keeps talking more people into it. So I have setup a handful of these on friends old desktops.
Today’s project is:
Dell SX280
P4 3.2GHz
1GB RAM
Integrated video card – no expansion slots so no other option available.

Fresh install of Xubuntu
Fresh install of Frodo 12.1

Basically XBMC start and shows - Remote communication server. Failed to start. Then if you don’t touch anything it crashes between 10 and 25 seconds later. Now if you are quick and move through the menus it will stay running a little longer – but basically it crashes in under 90 seconds.

I am a Linux tinkerer and have been playing with it for 3 years now but – I still don’t know the short hand lingo – so tell me exactly what to try…

Also – I tried Eden first and had the same issues. I then did a sudo apt-get autoremove xbmc .

I added the PPA and installed 12.1.
Same problem.

My XBMC log is here: http://pastebin.com/gdbHCyfJ

Thanks in advance for your help!

-get rid of pulseaudio:
sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio libasound2-plugins

-set speaker setup in xbmc to 2.0 (assuming there is no surround reciever connected)

Thank you very much!

I did remove the Pulseaudio as you directed.

It seems better - but still locks up. I went to stream an online file - and it says "working" and after 5 seconds - just locks up.

Here is my new Debug log - http://pastebin.com/sUbrN2Ss

And a XBMC Crash log - http://pastebin.com/y6U4FG6w

Plus some more intel. It turns out that if I window the XBMC screen to about 1/3 the size - I can stream files BUT it sucks. It shows that it is going 4 fps... CPU usage is only 12 to 25% or so...

With no video I get 40 fps.

Anyway - I don't know if that information helps - but it starting to look more like it is video hardware or software related?

Thanks again for your help.

it is still using pulse! And don't use streaming as test, only local files

Sorry - I don't know what to do if it is "still using pulse".

SO - I installed a fresh copy of Linux Mint 14 with Mate.
Updated all the packages after install.

Then just did:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc

and - all is working fine now! Yes - it is Eden but working!

So far no lock ups and no problems streaming!

Thanks again for the help!
