I have a server box that runs windows and has 8 hard drives in it. The case is maxed out drive wise And I need help figuring out what to do next.
How can I add more storage to this build? I don't want to start over. External drives may be an option but I feel there is a better way.
Thoughts?

If we knew which case you have, it would be easier to help. I'd say with 4in3 or 5 in 3 drive cajes and somw sata cards

Sorry I didn't explain better.. the case will not fit anymore drives. I am already using a 4 in 3 cage. I need to think outside the box..literally

Well.. 8 drives is pretty low, why don't you just change the case? There are many cases that will fit much more drives

Well upgrade your cases to 5:3 instead of 4:3

Looks like a NAS, but it's just a 4 bay enclosure with cooling fans, connects via eSATA or USB 3.0. About the same price as 4 decent separate enclosures, but more compact.
Only bad thing is the power cable doesn't plug in the back, but on the side, which is weird but only a minor cosmetic flaw.

Is replacing drives an option? My machine has 4 storage drives ATM, 2x2TB, 2x3TB, and it's next drive will likely be a 4TB. My plan is that once it has 9 drives, I start replacing the older smaller drives with larger drives. Drive Bender would accommodate this action nicely.

If you've filled 8 drives you may want to do some analysis of how fast you're going through disk space. Collectors of HD content generally end up going to a NAS to handle the TBs of data they eventually end up with.

Well, technically speaking, a server is a NAS, among other things. I personally find most "pre-made" NAS solutions to be overpriced, and think it's far more cost effective (and very often more powerful) to just use a low-power server I made myself.

Let me add this question to the conversation.. I have a few extra pc cases around the house that could each fit about 4-6 drives. Is there any easy way to convert this into an external enclosure? Just want to see if anyone has any input on this before I place my order. Thanks!
