Need help with MediaPortal TVServer - TVServerXBMC plugin
#1
Hi,
I installed MediaPortal TVServer and TVServerXBMC plugin. To complete setup I needed to create 2 share folder in that plugin. Unfortunately I made error with share name and If I tried to change share again I got error message "Failed to create share, name not unique". I uninstalled the plugin and reinstall but still the wrong share exists.
Did anybody have information How to remove or rename this share?

Thanks
Ahti

you might want to check my thread from a few days ago. You'll probably need to install the microsoft sql express tool to access the database and fix/remove those entries

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=161661

I ended up reloading the OS for other reasons....

what you want to do is configure your recording and timeshift folders in the regular mediaportal settings, then once you've installed and enabled the plugin, don't touch the share settings.

instead, either navigate to the folders and share them from the properties window, or do it from the computer management folder sharing window

once you've shared the folders through windows, if you go back and look at the plugin settings, you'll see that it's picked up the network share paths

If you plan on having clients connect to your mediaportal server over network, you'll want to make sure they can access the shared path. This is something i'm not sure about as the plugin settings in XBMC have a username and password, i'm not sure if a remote client uses these credentials to access the folder paths, or just the database information and what not.

i found this the hard way, I really think the documentation could stand to be updated to reflect this

ssl6 is right. Just create the shares with proper access rights outside the TVServerXBMC plugin and the plugin will pick-up these shares on the next start of the TVService (e.g. after a reboot or TVServer restart).

Margro, could you explain how to do this? I have also messed up my share paths. I have mediaportal TV server and XBMC client on the same machine.

there's two ways to do it

first off, as mentioned, don't touch the share folder settings in the tvserver plugin

go to the recording and timeshift settings for media portal and configure your folders, or leave them at the default locations. (see the mediaportal wiki links below)

Recording settings
http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIA..._Recording

Timeshift settings
http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIA...meshifting

then, open my computer, or explorer, whatever you prefer to call it, and navigate to the folder. right click the folder and go to properties, then on the sharing tab, enable sharing

MS should have everything you need for file sharing on this page
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windo...er-sharing

Once you've got file sharing enabled, you'll want to refer to here
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windo...th-someone

If your more savvy, you can use the computer management to share files as well

@Corpus_Chain:
You don't need to share anything if the TVServer server and XBMC client are on the same machine. The XBMC client always tries to access the local path first.

I'm trying to override the share names to use IP addresses instead of hostnames.

My AppleTV which is connecting to the Media Portal backend cant access the share unless it is using the IP address.

Option = TVServerXBMC / Shares, is not in MediaPortal TVServer database (MySQL or MSSQL).
Do not create your own "Create share". But if you intended to enter your UNC (\\192.168.100.55\TimeShifting or ...\capture). It damages. This can be corrected. Open you "capture" or "timeshifting" folder options. Go to sharedFolder Option and disable sharing for this folders. Recreate sharing. Restart TVService.

MediaPortal love to use server "hostname". And automatically fills it.
dMan27: if your AppleDevice can get the IP of the hostname from DNS server? Or by an entry in the hosts file (apple version, if it exists).
