Okay, so I am sure that this must have been asked at some point, but I have been searching and searching and I cannot find an answer.

Most guides seem to assume that you have an IR receiver for your remote. I dont, and I just have a cheappy universal remote, so I assume it is just IR and nor RF

I do have a wireless keyboard and mouse, and if I am not mistaken, the dongle for that is RF. So, is there any way to get a remote to work for me somehow without having to buy anything?

I have wireless 360 controllers, but nothing to use them with the PC, and a few universal remotes. I would love to be able to use one of them with the keyboard dongle... or maybe make an IR receiver somehow?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm afraid all of those use there own frequency, which to my knowledge cannot be changed.
There is a solution for you, and it's relatively cheap.

I recently bought a wireless receiver dongle specifically for hooking up xbox 360 controllers to a pc. It is a official microsoft product but as i discovered they no longer sell the product i stores in Norway. What i had to do was to find one at eBay. It works great

As the other post explains most of the rf rceivers are locked down to certain products or brands so i think it would be difficult to find one dongle to rule them all :p

Yeah, I was looking for something like that in stores yesterday and couldnt find anything like it. I was sure that they existed though.
