HI new to all this.

Trying to add movies
Videos>Files> Add files>Browse> Windows SMB>Workgroup>My laptop> movie folder.

When I select the folder containing my movies a lock settings screen pops up.

Not sure what password they are asking for.

No password to log onto laptop needed

Folder is shared

tried network password, no luck

XBMC Frodo 12. Raspian
Same problem using OpenElec

Network connection s fine

Please point me in the right direction or tell me what I need to do.

Thanks in advance TominCville

The password it is asking for is probably your windows login information that is associated with the share you created on your windows box.
You can add read access to everyone on the share if you want which will eliminate the need for a password.

Or you can setup a specific username/password to access the media.

Is this on Windows 7? Have you checked that password protected sharing is turned off?

Go to control panel / network and sharing center / change advanced sharing settings, towards the bottom is an option to turn off password protected sharing.
