Win ASROCK Nettop ION3D 152B
#1
Hi guys,

Looking to buy my first HTPC sometime in the near future and I want to make sure I don't do anything really stupid. I've tried to search the internet for answers but I'm getting conflicting reports.

I'm looking at a ASRock Nettop ION3D 152B which I will use to play 720p/1080p videos via an external harddrive (plugged into a USB port on the HTPC) as well as playing blu-ray discs. I'm looking for the HTPC to be quiet as well. I don't have a sound system so I will be using a HDMI cable for both video and sound. Will this computer be good enough? I don't want to build anything myself.

It's 2010 technology. It will work but unless you're getting an amazing price on it used/refurbished, there are more up-to-date choices such as the Intel NUC, Lenovo Q190, etc.

Thanks buddy. What about this setup?

(Intel NUC BOXDC3217IYE)

Intel Core i3-processor 1,8 GHz with 3MB Smart Cache
Intel QS77 Express Chipset
Intel HD Graphics 4000
Intel 525 Series mSATA 60 GB SSD
Kingston ValueRAM 8GB 1333Mhz SODIMM

About the same price as the ASRock Nettop I mentioned in the first post.

From my experience, an i3 with HD4000 GPU is one of the best setups for HTPC.

Long thread about the NUC here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=140534
