[Solved] No Audio Output via HDMI to TV
#1
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and I've noticed that my movies and any other system audio can be heard from my TV (LG) via the HDMI cable.
However, when I turn to XBMC there's no audio on TV. Not only movies, but music and generaly the skins' sounds.

I've set HDMI as the default audio output in the playback options in Windows' settings.
I also searched other threads and tried different combinations in XBMC [Frodo] > Settings > System > Audio Output but nothing seems to work.
Additionally I followed these intractions but it didn't help very much: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Aud...gure_audio

My Audio Driver is IDT Hight Definition Audio and it's up-to-date.

I'd appreciate your help and tell me what additional information you need. Thanks.

So when you go to the Audio Output settings page and you look at the Audio Output Device line near the bottom of the page, what do you see?

It should identify the TV. If not click on the arrow and see if it is in the list and you can choose it. It should be listed under the same name as windows shows it.

Thanks, I think that the problem is that there's nothing in "Encoded Formats" in Sounds -> Playback -> Audio Device -> Properties -> Supported Formats. The instractions say that if there are no "Encoded Formats" then I should check if I have the Intel Management Engine Interface driver installed. So I checked and It is installed but there are still no "Encoded Formats".

I tried the following XBMC audio settings:

Audio Output: Analog
Speaker configuration: 2.0
Audio Output: Directsound - Speakers

Also I don't know if it effects anything but the Passthrough Output Device option says: Error - no devices found.

Your TV likely doesn't support anything other than LPCM on it's HDMI input then, try:

Audio output: Analog
Speaker configuration: 2.0
Audio Ouptut Device: Directsound - HDMI (you can also try WASAPI - HDMI as well if you have it)

There are these 2 options:

i) WASAPI - Speakers (IDT Hight Definition Audio CODEC)
ii) DirectSound - Speakers (IDT Hight Definition Audio CODEC)

There's no option for Directsound - HDMI and nothing of the 2 above work...

Sounds to me like you don't have the Intel HDMI audio driver installed.

Have you installed the drivers from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchR...amilyId=39

I can't find this driver in the Intel site you gave me. What exactly do i have to search?
Can I download the first one from here? http://www.drivermax.com/driver/update/M...Audio-HDMI

The audio driver is bundled in with the Intel graphics driver, this should be the right one for you https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_...5&lang=eng

Okay I'll try this one. It's gonna take some time to be downloaded because I have slow internet connection, but when It's done I'll let you know. Thank you!

I installed the driver but everything's still the same Sad

What about the fact that there are no "Encoded Formats" in Sounds -> Playback -> Audio Device -> Properties -> Supported Formats?
Was that supposed to be fixed with the driver installation?

Driver should give you the option of Intel audio for the HDMI, as the IDT Hight Definition Audio CODEC is only for speakers and the analog audio out jack.

Does Device Manager show the Intel Display Audio driver installed? Refer to http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Win...udioEngine

What does Sound - Playback devices show?

Well there's some sort of Intel driver, as there is an entry containing Intel® listed in the Device Manager and that's what seen against the TV device in Sound - Playback, so I guess that's the HDMI.

So have you got anything in XBMC audio settings containing either HDMI, or 32LG500, or Intel® in the scroll list for Audio Output Device.

I have a question. How is it possible to hear sound from TV when watching for example a movie on VLC player but not on XBMC?
