Help with my First HTPC build
#1
I’m looking to build my first HTPC. Most of parts I plan on purchasing from Newegg. Could you guys let me know if I am missing or recommend changing anything? Thanks

Case: nMEDIAPC Model #:HTPC 6000B $79.99
nMEDIAPC PRO-LCD Media Center Programmable LCD $34.99
Motherboard: ASRock A75M FM1 AMD A75 $74.99
CPU: AMD A8-3870K $86.99
Power supply: KINGWIN ABT-750MM 750W ATX 12V v2.2 Model #:ABT-750M $49.99
Tuner card: Ceton InfiniTV 4 Quad-tuner Card $199.99
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) $72.99
Hard drive: SanDisk SDSSDP-064G-G25 2.5" 64GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) $59.99
Optional drive: LG Black 12X Blu-ray Combo Drive SATA Model UH12NS29 $49.99
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit-OEM $99.99
I also have a 500 GB hard drive lying around that I plan on using to store recorded TV shows.

I am looking to watch and record TV shows. Stream Netflix, watch blu-ray disks all in 1080p 5.1 surround sound. It would also be a plus to stream live and record content from this box to other devices and TVs on my network.

its a decent case i have one and i like it cause it has plenty of space if you aren't trying to build a small foot print htpc then it is not a bad choice and it looks like it belongs in a home theater setup cause its the same size as my receiver.
one thing you didn't list is a remote and a IR or RF receiver.
another thing is that your 500gb drive will fill fast...very fast if your not just watching the shows and then deleting them so if your planing to save them might want to start out with the drive you have but look into getting a second much larger drive.
also do alot of research on the centon card to make sure you can use it in your area with your cable company before you take the plunge and buy it only to find out you cant use it or can only get a handful of channels as i discovered ..cause timewarner wants to force ppl in my area to using thier pvr boxes so even with a tuner card and a cable card i get 12 channels.

Thanks for the info Vampirebat,

I'm having trouble choosing a remote and ir receiving as I don't like anything out there. Do u have any suggestions? I have comcast and all the reviews I have read have been good on the centon but I will do some more. I do plan on getting a larger hard drive at some point but just want to use the one I had for now. Thank again!

the board you choose does have a cir header so this would be a good choice or this plus a separate remote ...harmony would be a good one.
i personally use an android tablet most of the time and have a generic mce remote as a back up.
the CIR header will let you turn the PC on from an off state so you don't have to leave it in suspend or sleep mode all the time.
