I'm not sure why this is occurring. I have set up the folder on my server to be shared and have entered the necessary usernames and passwords.

I can go into the folder fine when I am in Finder.

I'm not too sure what the problem is here.

The TVServerXBMC plugin does not detect that your Timeshift folder is shared, so it can't tell the XBMC plugin which network share it should use.
Open the "TVServer Configuration" tool, go to "Plugins"->"TVServerXBMC" and check the "Shares" tab. A green path there indicates a found share. A red local path means that it is not shared.

Note that newly created shares will only be detected after a restart of the TVServer.

I'm not sure I understand where I should be looking for the 'Shares' tab.

I opened Mediaportal's Tv Server Configuration and found the plugin but can not see a shares tab?

I must also add I am using Mediaportal version 1.1.2 and the correlating version of the plugin.

Would this matter? Do I need to upgrade?

Glad that it is now working.
Your TVServerXBMC plugin for TVServer 1.2 was probably older than 1.2.3.120. The shares tab was introduced in this version.
