I'm looking to replace this remote:

with a true MCE remote that adds a little better user experience.

Question is:

If I buy an MCE remote on it's own without a usb IR Receiver, will the existing receiver work? I can say that the existing remote transmits keyboard presses and mouse movements, so I assume that's not the same format as what the MCE would transmit, but maybe I'm wrong?

For reference I'm really liking the layout of the HP MCE Remote. Just hoping to save a few bucks by not buy another IR Receiver.

Thank you, just trying to make use of what I have, meaning even that remote with the "Sanoxy" Ir receiver. I don't see any reason an MCE Remote blasting MCE codes into an IR device shouldn't work, but perhaps the device type as seen in windows and the registry mapping plays a role too?

I'm about to just pull the trigger on a full setup, unless someone has better understanding/has done it.

If you can post the device manager info (USB hardware IDs) and what Windows driver the Sanoxy uses we could tell you more.

Hopefully it's a full standard "eHome" one.

Being in the 2 section, would lead me to believe it will not work..

Poop. Good thing it was cheap, too bad I can't save ~$10 on a better one by bypassing the IR kit.

No its not. I have one in tha house and when using the IR receiver and a original MCE remote it doesn't respond. Maybe I have another version of this remote but the picture says I've got one that looks the same.
