openelec AND retroplayer? i need a clean pair of pants
#16
Pi user here. I was wondering if the emulator cores found inside RetroPie (link) would work together with Retroplayer on OpenElec running on a Raspberry Pi?

I'm also wondering if you think Retroplayer would run at an acceptable speed on a Pi? It seemed to me like Retroplayer was encoding emulator output to video and then letting XBMC decode it (wild speculation here, but I base this off of perceived compression artifacts while testing Retroplayer on a Windows machine). That might be too much for the Pi to handle, methinks.

I have built my own Generic x86_64 version of OE with Retroplayer (using instructions above) if anyone is interested and too lazy to compile it themselves.

Download it here.

edit: Installer is broken, live works. Will build another one.

edit #2: second attempt to compile failed, but if you already have an OpenELEC install, you can easily upgrade it by putting the 4 files from target (KERNEL* and SYSTEM*), from the above dl, in your \\<openelec-ip>\Upgrade and reboot. It will then reboot once more after upgrade has finished and you're set.

edit #3: it is probably just my usb stick that is giving me these errors, as i've tried versions from OpenELEC.tv too with the same result. So it *SHOULD* be fine to use. Keep me posted if you try it.

edit #4: saw that this is a confirmed bug with the installer. Please install 3.0.6 and then update as described here: http://openelec.tv/forum/120-news-announ...rt=0#83134

Tried to build my own last night, failed right near the end. Ugh.

An ION i386 build would be nice... Blush

i386? Any ION system handles x64 without any hiccups, no need to stay with an old arch like that?

my shuttle xs35gt is ION x86. box is tiny, and entirely solid state - the thing makes as much noise as a cell phone when it's cranking out 1080p movies.

When I compile your openelec repository, which branch of XBMC do I get? retroplayer8? When do you normally rebase your retroplayer branch on maste xbmc?
I am asking because I realy want to give this a shot (espeacially on Openelec) but I don't want to loose 3D functionality Smile

the current branch is retroplayer8. when you run ./mkpkg_xbmc-retroplayer the setup will clone the most recent version. I rebase on the 30th/31st of every month, usually within 5-10 days. retroplayer8 is based on Alpha 6. retroplayer9 will be based on Alpha 7. 3D support was added this alpha cycle, so when I rebase in september we'll get 3D support.

Compiling for the Raspberry Pi (using "time PROJECT=RPi ARCH=arm XBMC=retroplayer make release") produces a 404 error (I think this is a different 404 from the one described in the OP).

The build script seems to be looking for "http://sources.openelec.tv/mirror/ppl/ppl-1.1pre9.tar.xz", whereas browsing http://sources.openelec.tv/mirror/ppl/ reveals ppl-1.1pre7.tar.xz to be the latest version.

I have no idea whether this issue specifically relates to Retroplayer.

EDIT:
The build script seems to be looking for the file in a variety of places, all of which fail. However, browsing some of the url: s, some of the locations provide newer version than the one the build script is looking for while others provide older versions, but none seem to actually provide the specific version that the script is looking for.

i do not believe that Retroplayer has been ported for the Raspberry Pi yet? See post #4 & #5.

im sure u can use the core of any raspberry build of retroarch. there is a post on the raspbmc forum who explain this.

Two options: either browse to packages/toolchain/math/ppl/meta and change PKG_VERSION="1.1pre9" to PKG_VERSION="1.1pre7" (reverting 3f056bc) or manually place ppl-1.1pre9.tar.xz in sources/. If ppl-1.1pre9.tar.xz is present then the buld script will skip trying to download it.

see [split] Raspbmc build instructions thread for pcjason's attempt at compiling RetroPlayer for RPi. looks like you'll have to make a small change to libbson.
