SPDIF and NUC... bedroom XBMC setup with old receiver.
#1
Interested in moving to a NUC style device for XBMC in my bedroom at some point. Running XBMCbuntu possibly? However in there I use my old Logitech Z5500. Which works great and I see no reason to replace it just now. My game console is using the Optical input, and I currently use Coaxial for XBMC on my old PC (freezing issues, noisy!). I do watch a lot of HD content, but am happy with the old sound setup for surround.

The NUC (and most small solutions I have looked into) does not have SPDIF. I am wondering if there is just a simple USB to SPDIF device that would achieve what I want without any major issues.

I found this device... http://www.matrixelectronics.net/matrix-...p-197.html but it mentions nothing about dolby digital etc, maybe its just not its intended purpose, but why wouldn't it do it? If it can send PCM it should send DD/DTS... I think the Behringer DAC would work too but that only has Optical out, I want Coaxial if possible. The only other way I can think of is to go HDMI to SPDIF/COAX with a similar style box - something like this http://www.jtechdigital.com/product.php?id=78.

Has anyone else successfully done this with the NUC?
