Do Not Know What Device to Get
#1
Hello guys,

Looking for some help here. I have about a $200 budget to spend and would like to get a device that can be used for Youtube, Netflix, and most of all, I would like to install XBMC on it. I was thinking of getting an Apple TV 3 and jailbreaking it (I am under the impression you can), but I believe there is no XBMC port for it yet. I currently have a Sony GoogleTV Internet Player, but just found out it cannot run XBMC and might not even have the ability to run it smoothly when an SDK is released. So I am hoping you all can help me out here. I am looking for a $150-$200 device that can run XBMC, Netflix, and Youtube (mainly those three) very well. Any ideas from you all?

Regards,

Chris

For decent Netflix (and even Youtube) you'll want to be on Windows, and I don't think $150-$200 is going to get you where you need to be. I think the range is more like double that.

How about an android based device for around that price range?

And to be honest Netflix and Youtube aren't a necessity as I have my PC in my room and can stream from there. I just would really like a device for 150-200 that can run 720-1080p videos smooth and well through XBMC.

This - $160

Plus this - $19

Plus this - $8

Plus Openelec - free

$187

Or find an android device (GeniaTech EnjoyTv 520) that can do it all.

You have the NUC celeron it's in your price range
or an Ouya $99
the difference between a NUC and Ouya for your needs is negligable
XBMC will have an official build specifically for the Ouya. It already has an offical build by Ouya that has shown to do full 1080p playback flawlessly and the menu navigation is stupid fast. For $99.

Check this video, it gives you a review of the Ouya and its performance on the latest build.

Netflix can be sideloaded but their will be an official version real soon released for the Ouya.
Youtube works.
XBMC rocks

If you already got a system with XBMC don't bother, at the pace of this market with new boxes released fornightly, it will be outdated by the time you get used to it with something cheaper and better. should only get it, if you want to upgrade or its your first time. I've got a Pi, but staying still for couple of months, atleast until intel amd amazon google show their cards which is until christmas. So yeah wait till after christmas or even new years and everything will droop in price and something better come along...
