Control multiple XBMCs from a single computer
#1
I have an HTPC set up in my living room that also functions as my file server and mysql db server. I have 2 computers with XBMC and 2 Rasperry Pis running OpenELEC 3.2.2.

My kids often watch their movies in their rooms.

What I would like is to be able to basically "take over" their XBMC sessions from my HTPC from within XBMC. Basically, this would ideally sync to what they are watching, perfectly in sync with it....and my controls would control that XBMC client (instead of the file server XBMC). At that point, if I skip forward, both my HTPC and their client also skip forward identically, etc etc. If I turn the volume down, both volumes turn down. Pressing the "MENU" key would take me back to my HTPC's XBMC session, but until I press it, anything else controls the client XBMC.

I understand there would be a few conditions and limitions....one of which would be mysql usage instead of the native library, so that all the sources are the same. Another would be a very low-latency connection (for proper sync).

This would allow me to control what is playing on the remote clients, the volume, etc. So there'd be no more "Daddy, can you put on a movie in my room?", I could turn it down if it got too loud, and.......most awesomely: When watching awesome stuff like the super bowl, I could sync the video and sound to every XBMC client and TV in my house.

You can do everything you are asking for with the basic http access (control volume, change playing video) already built into XBMC web gui besides the sync part and besides having one http interface to control both at the same time since they are independent clients.

I am pretty sure other people have looked into solutions to sync the video playing across multiple devices so you might be able to find something for that already out there.
