Win No sound on first playback of media
#1
HI all,

Very often the first time I play a movie or TV episode there is no sound. This is despite sound working OK in the XBMC interface. If I then stop and play the movie/episode again, then the sound plays just fine.

My setup is of an older ATI Radeon HD2400 with the sound coming from the HDMI cable via the 2400's integral Realtek audio chip (thus I am using the DVI to HDMI adapter) - if this is helpful to know? Also I am running 12.2 'Frodo'

Has anyone else experienced this? Of so does anyone know of a solution?

Your files likely contain an passthrough audio type that is not compatible with your system, for example Dolby Digital, however the GUI sounds are all Stereo PCM which will be compatible with any system.

Try the following audio settings:

Audio output: Analog
Speaker configuration: 2.0
Audio output device: HDMI

This will force all audio to be output as Stereo PCM.

You can then check the audio type in the files with MediaInfo and a log_file (wiki) will tell you what XBMC thinks your system is capable of.
