Is the Haswell NUC really worth it?

The GiadaPC looks nice but a search on NewEgg, which they list as a vendor, turns up no hits for that model - same with Amazon.

Its brand new, and indeed not available at this moment. It should (could/would) be the successor of the i53b (which I use as my major media-player), and as soon as it is available a get my hand (not hands, its a small item Wink ) on it. I love this model.

What do you guy's think of this config ?

I know it's extreme and overkilling it BUT it's cheaper then the Intel NUC and it's gorgeous too LOL

Would that work well with OpenELEC ?

AMD PILEDRIVER A-4 4000 DUAL CORE 3.2Ghz CPU
8GB 1333Mhz DDR3 RAM
1000GB Hard Drive Storage Space
CROOSSFIRE ATI RADEON HD 7480D + 2GB ATI RADEON HD 6670

how is that cheaper than the NUC? I typed NUC into the amazon search box and the first three results were all significantly less. Also, that graphics card(s) is MASSIVE overkill, and would significantly up your power draw, heat, and fan noise. If you're planning on gaming as well, then maybe. For just HTPC use, don't do it.

Nice way to hijack a thread.
- Its not cheaper than a NUC
- Its huge, and my wife doesn't want something 1.5 feet high, 1 foot deep, and almost a foot wide sitting next to the TV.
- Also it doesn't work with an infra red remote.

You could always start a new thread to discuss it ... something not titled "Haswell NUC".

It is, the NUC doesn't have the memory or hardrive included, therefor you endup paying way more !

Does that include 3D 1080p ?

What about this setup :

Yes.

But I would wait for the D34010WYK to be on sale very soon - particularly if you want to use an infra red remote because it has a sensor built in. It also has better graphics.
The RRP should be cheaper than the older model.
Currently suppliers are advertising pre-orders at a high price, but just hang in there because its due imminently.

Care to rethink that?

Looks great but it's going to be near £400 isn't it ?

Done with the thread-jacking? Start a thread about building a big overkill PC for HTPC and I'm sure you will find plenty of people who will chime in.

If you don't understand the appeal of a NUC and why people will spend around the same amount of cash for it as on a "real PC RAWR" then you shouldn't even be in this thread.

I'm not the one wasting everyone's time with this nonsense. The thread is about Haswell, you first posted about an AMD rig, and now you're asking people to help you spec out an Ivy NUC. There are plenty of threads more appropriate for the stuff you are asking about.

Some of us are shockingly in this thread (and getting the email notifications) because we are interested in XBMC related info about Haswell.

I've got an i3 Haswell on order, £230. The due date has been 30th October since I ordered but I'm expecting that to change, given somebody else has an i5 on order from the same place and their date just changed to 8th Nov.

With £30 on 4Gb ram and £56 on a 64Gb msata, it comes in at £316.

What place did you pre-order it from ? can't find any UK site via Google ?
