I know i need to be patient, i was just wondering if you had seen my post.

A "thx. for the logs, we will look into it" would have been nice though.

But nevermind, better use your time fixing the problem than using it on impatient users like me Wink

Having problems with MPC-HC as well so this must be an issue with windows 8.1

@bblauritzen: It looks like that you don't use a consumer video card (NVIDIA Quadro FX 580). I dunno if the hardware or the driver the limiting factor. We are unable to create a directx device which is a different error we're trying to solve here. The relevant log infos are:

10:04:55 T:4588 DEBUG: CRenderSystemDX::InitRenderSystem - driver looks like XPDM or earlier, falling back to D3D9
10:04:55 T:4588 DEBUG: CRenderSystemDX::CreateDevice on adapter 0
10:04:55 T:4588 DEBUG: CRenderSystemDX::CreateDevice - using software vertex processing
10:04:55 T:4588 WARNING: CRenderSystemDX::CreateDevice - initial wanted device config failed
10:04:55 T:4588 ERROR: CRenderSystemDX::CreateDevice - unable to create a device. 8876086A - D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE

Error description:
This device does not support the queried technique.

Sorry, but i dont by it, my Quadro FX 850 have never caused problems before and if it supported the " the queried technique" in Windows 7 and Windows 8.0 why should it suddenly stop in Windows 8.1

It's the same hardware and the same driver the only difference is the windows version.

the XBMC code regarding CreateDevice didn't changed either so what is the conclusion out of it? Make sure your drivers are up to date and look if there's some setting to turn on hw acceleration (on server that was the case but shouldn't on desktop).

Easy now.. I'm not trying to blame anything or anyone here. I'm just trying to figure out why XBMC doesn't works on my PC anymore.

The same hardware (newer had a problem)
The same driver (the newest)
The same version of XBMC (Latest Stable)

New version of windows. (8.1)

So the logical conclusion must be that the OS is the problem, meaning that something has changed that causes XBMC not to work in this setup.

EDIT: Found a solution. Installed the Windows 8.1 SDK kit found in this thread and now it works:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18082...indows-8-1

Looks like the CreateDevice routine needed some updatet .dll's to work in 8.1

That doesn't explain why there was a problem on this Hardware/OS combo and not on others though.

I didn't wanted to sound harsh.
Interesting but atm I have no clue why that is needed.

I also have this problem since updating to 8.1 on my Acer Iconia W700 tablet (with Intel HD3000 afaik).

However, for me not even installing the SDK helps. Or do I have to do something with the SDK to make the SDK dll's accessible to the system? I'm not a developer so do not really know how SDK's work.

Here is my log and it looks like it's the same error right?

Many thanks those of you who research this.

EDIT: Might add that I've updated drivers and have run Windows Update

This problem looks familiar to my XBMC running on win7-64 with SP1. Getting exit errors and speculate the video card. But now thinking some drivers changed in WIN7 that are similar to WIN8.
