New ITX Build with 6 sata
#1
Going to build an HTPC - Home Server with Fractal Design Node 304

i was looking for the haswell option but they are really expensive...

Balistix Ram
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0069...ROKL5A1OLE

64gb SSD Samsung
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0046...YBSTQL8S6T

Asus Z87I (it has 6 sata ports)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DL...ROKL5A1OLE

Noctua NH-L9i Cooler
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009V...87EGQ8Q89D

Intel I5 haswell
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CV...ROKL5A1OLE

Fractal Design 304, Silverstone SFX power supply and some harddrives are already owned..

since this is a very expensive build... are there any other viable options

Going to run windows 7 - or 8, XBMC, only 2d (no 3d) internet browsing...

Since its is going to be used as a mean to store video files, music, photos etc
it is imperative the motherboard to have 6 sata (at least)

Thank you for your time...

There are plenty of options, I am sure others will post their thoughts. Just for example (not necessarily recommending these specific parts)...

CPU
Something lowered, an i3 or even a celeron might work for your outlined needs.

MOTHERBOARD
Do you need the z87 chipset for anything specific?

H87 chipset
http://www.amazon.co.uk/H87I-Plus-Mother...s=Asus+h87 (for example)

Can save quite a bit going with an h87 motherboard and a lower-end CPU.

Forgot to say that will need the wi-fi also... (and z87 has wifi - unlike h87)

or a usb dongle will do just fine? (and which one)...

Why you need wifi? Shouldn't be using wifi if you're making a server/htpc!

your statement is correct..

maybe i should clarify since i misused the word server..

It wont stream to any machine..
everything is stored in .. everything plays by this htpc in the tv that is direct connected to ..

so wifi is needed only for internet browsing and xbmc scraping...

The ASUS P8H77-I has 6 x SATA and you could pair it with a i3-3220. What do you need an i5 for?

while the Z87I costs £132
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Z87I-Intel-Mothe...SUS+87+itx

This machine is for a friend and i will set it up...

Data will be copied from external hard drives (copied then to internal hard drives), camera, no downloading..

Wifi only for internet browsing, youtube and xbmc scraping (movie - tvshow info)...

Wow, I didn't realize the Haswell i3s were still not out in the UK. We've had them here since Sep. 1.
