SMB logon needed?

Krusty has recently helped me fix a windows machine running frodo stream live tv from a win7 machine via PVR addon.
Now I am trying to get a geexbox machine up and ran into a snag with live/recorded TV.
full log is at this link.

however this looks like the crux of the problem below.

do i need to setup a smb login and password for the nonwindows client?

I currently have no login/password on the machine recording and serving via serverWMC

After piddling around with settings the next day. It looks like the answer is YES.

In order to get my geexbox on USB stick to play via PVR this is what had to be done.

In serverWMC, Folders tab, check the box that says "Use credentials for non windows clients." I set up a user and pass here. I just used a generic XBMC/XBMC figuring maybe geexbox would already have this in it.
Restarted serverWMC.
Still no stream via PVR.

Where it gets interesting is that I wanted to see if the systems could share files. So I went in and setup on XBMC under VIDEOS then FILES then add Videos Added source as Network file Structure, then typed in the address I had configured in serverWMC as smb;\\host\folder then in path.

This allowed me to browse via VIDEOS to the path that PVR used to hold recorded/live TV files and view them.
After rechecking PVR function thru XBMC it now works.

Thanks for following up xn. Have you tried looking the wiki pages for getting help on the pvr software? Also this thread has discussion of said pages and is taking suggestions and corrections:

Just had the same discussion in the link krusty mentioned

You do not have to use credentials if your Windows sharing settings have network discovery - on, file/printer sharing - on, and password protected sharing - off

Caveat being that it still doesn't work for full drives, but works fine for individual folders within the drive (i.e. \\BASEMENT couldn't share D:\ on the network w/o password but has no problem sharing D:\RecordedTV w/o login requirement)
