Need help on HTPC for gaming
#1
So I'm looking to add a gaming capable htpc to my cinema. My current setup is just fine but I would like a little more power than my current i3 3225 + 7750 lp can offer.

I'm aiming at medium budget and I wont need the power to run the heaviest titles on ultra. I basically want to run most titles on high with 1080p.

So this rises the question if windows will do or if the upcoming steam os might be a good solution, taking a educated guess that nvidia will be a better fit for anything linux than amd.

What I want:
A controller for games
Built in BT would be nice for controllers (dual shock etc.)
Built in IR in case
CIR on MB

What i don't want or need:
A flashy exterior
Wifi
usb 3
thunderbolt
bluray

For windows I was thinking something like:
Case: silverstone, Lian li or fractal design htpc case with space for full height and length gpu (200$ in my country)
MB: ASrock 1150 with BT and cir (150$ in my country)
CPU: i5 (250$ in my country)
RAM: 8gb 1600mhz corsair I've got left over after another build (0$)
GPU: amd 280 (350$ in my country)
SSD: 120GB corsair i have laying around (0$)
HDD: 1TB wd blue i already own (0$)
PSU: Cooler master 500w (50$ in my country)
Controller: X360 wireless (50$ in my country)
Total of 1050$

For linux I was thinking something like:
Case: silverstone, Lian li or fractal design htpc case with space for full height and length gpu (200$ in my country)
MB: ASrock 1150 with BT and cir (150$ in my country)
CPU: i5 (250$ in my country)
RAM: 8gb 1600mhz corsair I've got left over after another build (0$)
GPU: nvidia 670/680 (can be found cheap) (300$ in my country)
SSD: 120GB corsair i have laying around (0$)
HDD: 1TB wd blue i already own (0$)
PSU: Cooler master 500w (50$ in my country)
Controller: steam controller(?) (50$ in my country)
Total of 1000$

The cheaper the better, any advise is appreciated.
