Anybody have a preference of one over the other? I am looking to get something for a newly purchased tv.
thoughts? Also how does one figure out which NUC have the haswell?

I looked at both of them. The Gigabyte Brix has the wifi card and audio by Realtek which are used in lots of motherboards so it's really not a negative and so it's a bit cheaper than the NUC. To tell if they have Haswell chip, look at the model number and the processor. Both Brix and NUC have Haswell chip now. The NUC Haswell has the IR built in. I ended up going with the Haswell i3 NUC. I assume, may be wrongly that the NUC will have better driver support from Intel.
