DRM query fails
#1
I updated to 8.1 and wmcserver reports that the "DRM query failed (Com/service not ready)" so all the channels are marked DRM and won't stream and I can't view recorded tv. This did not happen in Windows 7 and it worked great.

Thanks for the long hoped for SoftSled (software media center extender).

I can post logs if you think it'll help.

Thanks. Assuming wmc has been configured and is working in 8.1, yes please post the server log.

Just to be clear, please upload the log to a public paste site and post the assigned URL here (i.e., don't paste log contents directly in post).

This same thing happened to me when I first loaded/updated to 8.1. I then just restarted the server and all was well again.
I'm assuming the same will happen for you.. Maybe run WMC then reboot and restart the server?..
All I know is I had the exact same issue and it fixed itself quickly.

Here's the log. I forgot to save a longer one with the client pulling the channels. I tried rebooting, set up an extender and restarted the server many times. I've since rolled back to Win7 and it works great.

The log doesn't say that the channels are all drm'd just that doing the drm check failed. That is not supposed to be fatal at startup. Can you post the link to the longer log if you still have it?

This is my 1st time setting up Live TV on XBMC. Everything seems to have worked properly, although all of my channels are reporting as copy protected in the EPG. After not showing any channels, I unchecked the DRM box on the backend. After that the EPG loaded properly in XBMC, but I am unable to tune to any of them. I do have HBO and Showtime, and had not expected those channels to work in XBMC. I did expect ABC, CBS, NBC, etc... to work, but alas, so far no luck. All channels now show with the -drm tag.

Windows 8.1
WMC Works fine. All channels are viewable and recordable.
Comcast
Internal Ceton tuner and
HD HomeRun Prime

Oops. Posted the way too long log. I will upload to pastebin and add the link.

Its worrisome that this is the second 8.1 system with the same weird problem. It looks to me like the server can't grab the tuners, like possibly they aren't configured or they are locked up. Try rebooting, then starting serverwmc again. If you have the same problem, send me a link to the entire log file.

To make sure the channels aren't drm'd, you can test by just playing a wtv file recorded off of one of the channels directly with xbmc.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have restarted everything - server, system, wmc, xbmc more than once with no change. I am out now but will try to play a wtv file when I get home. I was unable to paste the whole log on pastebin as it exceeded 5mb. Can I share a Google Drive or drop box link to the text file?

I just played the .wtv of Nikita in XBMC. It was recorded last night on WMC. It played fine. When finished I saw a toast message that I had no PVR client enabled. Weird. It was previously enabled. In fact, ensuring the client was enabled was something I checked more than once prior to posting here. Anyway, the client disabled itself at some point. I did refresh the EPG a couple times, plus did a couple of reboots of the system and server. I re-enabled it but the channels still appear as -drm.

I agree with your concern about the same weird problem occurring with more than one person in Win 8.1, but want to reiterate that this is my 1st attempt at adding Live TV to XBMC. It may be "operator error" in my case. I have used WMC and XBMC for years, and your instructions were simple and straightforward. Still, I may have missed something. I paid the $3 for a longer pastebin post (didn't realize there was a single month option). Please let me know if I can provide any more info.

Others are having the issue with the client disabling, myself as well. Disabling the repository has stopped it from doing that. I'm sure it will be fixed soon. Smile

I reinstalled Windows 8 and everything works as expected. I'll upgrade to 8.1 to see if it breaks.

Upgraded to Windows 8.1 tonight. I had .NET errors when it first started, but after reinstalling WMCServer everything is working perfectly. Thanks for the great work, and support to boot. Now I can retire my extender and (hopefully) use my Raspberry PI in it's place.

Oops. I was going to post to you yesterday that if you upgrade from 8 to 8.1 you might need to re-install serverwmc. The reason is, ms actually updated the wmc dlls in 8.1, but serverwmc only checks this version when it is getting installed.

This might be wiki worthy.

Done. Added to SWMC 'Know Issues' and pvr.wmc 'Windows Troubleshooting'.
The XBMC team, plug-in devs, skinners, etc. do this for us for FREE in their spare time because they want to. Think about that for a second before you start bitching...
