he's aware of the removal/disable of the xvid codec and asking when it will become available suggesting videolan as a possible source for information.
if the internal xvid codec is disabled, could it make use of an external and if so how?

which version doesn't play xvid?
mine plays xvid just fine.

i think i remember why we removed the builtin xvid codec.
we couldnt detect any visual difference, so we decided to remove xvid codec to save mem. ffmpeg handles alot more than xvid already
our ffmpeg isnt that old either if memory serves.
sure we're still on mplayerpre6 but im quite sure ffmpeg was updated to pre7 or even newer a while ago.
if there has been additional xvid improvements since pre7, where can i read about this ?

ffmpeg's xvid decoder is definatly not going obsolete.. if somebody can provide me with a sample file that doesn't play using ffmpeg's decoder that does with standard xvid i'll might reenable it. otherwise it's just a waste of memory.
