Album art missing - import from iTunes
#1
Hi

I've used iTunes to import and organize my entire (+500) cd collection which is located in my iTunes library on my mac. If I point XBMC to that directory it will recognize most of the albums, but seems to have its own source of album artwork. Again most covers show up correctly, but some covers doesn't. The album art is either missing or is wrong.

1) is there any way I can force XBMC to use the same covers as I see in iTunes (I don't know how iTunes handles this or where the files are stored) or
2) can I manually change/add pictures for the once that are missing/wrong?

Thanks in advance :-)

XBMC does not support iTunes artwork. This article outlines how to add your own- http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Add...he_library

XBMC does support iTunes artwork. iTunes stores embedded artwork like everyone else does.

My mistake. I was just quoting from the wiki. I wondered about that when I read it. Perhaps that article is outdated. Or more likely I just read it wrong. Smile

You could let iTunes download the artwork (at least the settings is still there) but it won't show up in XBMC since it's a local file.

To use only artwork embedded to ID3 tags, go your album scraper settings and try disabling cover downloading there and see if it makes any difference. One would think that embedded artwork has higher priority than scraped ones so i don't know if this makes any difference.

Also, double check the ID3 tags in iTunes that the covers are actually there. When you make changes to the tags in iTunes you need to update your XBMC music library to see the changes.

Well... that sort of works to disable the scrapers. The albums I added covers to manually shows up now with correct cover that I added. However the majority which iTunes automatically found the cover for is now without cover in XBMC. So I guess iTunes only stores covers the right place if you add the cover manually... Confused

Yes, only embedded artwork will show up in other applications. So letting iTunes download the album art is useless if it's not your only application.

Sorry... I was wrong. Seems like it doesn't make a difference at all to disable the scrapers and update the library :-(

Also I tried to put a jpg file (256x256) in an album folder as suggested by the wiki and it seems to work. However it's a bit annoying as 1) its much easier to drag & drop the file into iTunes and 2) I've already got album covers for all cd's there as opposed to the 80-90% that XBMC scrapers were able to find.

Interesting, I didn't realize that iTunes behaved differently when you used the "get artwork" vs manually pasting artwork. However, there is a solution for this: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss...bedartwork

Just tried that script on Meddle by Pink Floyd. Here XBMC found a wrong cover (it's from a "golden master" collection rather than the original one). iTunes found the correct one.

Used the script on the album in iTunes and it seemed to process something and didn't return an error.

Went to XBMC and updated the library. The scrapers are disabled. It still has the old cover :-(

I went and found the desired cover (took the one from wikipedias article on that album, 300x300 jpg file) and placed it in the albums folder, renamed it folder.jpg.

Updated the XBMC library again and now the correct cover is shown.

By the way - using Frodo 12.3 stable release on OS X 9.1.

...browsed doug's scripts and found this one:

That does exactly what I need :-) I only wish it could be set to work on the entire library at once.
