No Live TV with new WMC backend
#16
So I installed the new client 1.93 for windows on PC2 along with the swmc and uninstalled the swmc on PC1.
This was to ensure that it was on one PC and there was no conflict if ever there was suppose to be and guess what it worked after doing a clean install of the plugin of course:
wipe the pvr.wmn remnants from
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addon
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addon\package
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\userdata\addon_data

Cheers scarecrow420 - I hope you blokes blank the Poms in the ODIs
krustyreturns - heres a Ballast Point IPA to you.
I really appreciate your inputs and insights.
Stay frosty till the next spot of bother.

Glad you got it working (although I'm still curious why it failed). Good choice of beer, btw.

krustyreturns,
I feel that I did not do a fresh re-install of the plugin.
Switching back and forth between connecting to a remote swmc and local swmc I must have retained the previous information in the cache resulting in the failure, I suppose.
Thanks again.

I'm having a similar issue. I have uninstalled, reinstalled both pvr.wmc and the server. Rebooted, etc.
I have a simple installation, single instance, everything running from the same drive.
Using HDHomerun Prime with Comcast CableCard. Can watch Live TV fine using WMC. No problems.
When I go to display Live TV in XBMC, nothing ever tunes. Tried multiple times, multiple channels.

XBMC.log: http://pastebin.com/SDt6u359

I'm not sure what that missing guid is, but it certainly shows up in lots of people's logs if you google for it.
Thanks for any help you can give.

This looks weird, like it is giving up too early. Can you start a recording and after it starts try to play the recording while it is active? Let us know if it plays.

Here are the logs for that situation:

ServerWMC.log: http://pastebin.com/85HwL2Ge
XBMC.log: http://pastebin.com/cft4GAGN

In addition, after the recording has started successfully, the attempt to tune to the channel in XBMC generates an error and stops the recording. This is being reported from the system tray from WMC itself.

OK so from the logs I take it in this situation, even an in progrss recording is also reporting no data in the WTV file and crashing out

Can you now try to schedule a recording through XBMC and let it complete (or even just cancel it after 5 minutes)? Then attempt to watch that finished recording in both XBMC and WMC and report results?

Hey guys, I don't see where he ran the test in the logs. There should be an 'OpenRecordingStream' command but I can't find it. Ken, it may not be there because you unchecked 'remux active recordings' in the 'recordings' tab of serverwmc. If in scarecrow's test, you can play the wtv file in xbmc, then select this option, restart swmc and do my test again. But if you can't play the wtv in xbmc, then don't bother.

Yeah actually that log seems to show that the recording request got all messed up. Seemed to send through a time range that corresponded with 115 EPG hits etc. It seemed to schedule a recording for the show "The SItuation Room" at like 10pm that night eventhough the current time was 5:45 PM or so. Then he just OpenLiveStream that same channel (but as you say, this isnt viewing the actual recording as the recording was scheduled for later that night somehow).

I havent looked at the recording stuff in a while, but should the AddTimer be sending through this large time range (starting from 1/1/1970)?

2014/01/29 17:45:08.366 GetSingleEntrybyChannelAndId> 115 EPG Hits for Range 1/1/1970 12:00 AM to 1/30/2014 12:45 AM on Channel 1106 : CNNHD - 16A722 = { (1106 : CNNHD - 17D52) + [ 1106 : CNNHD - 169F23] }

OK, I did some additional things to see if I could sort out any other issues that could be contributing.
I had been using the DSPlayer build of Frodo 12.3 and could see initially that when I played back a wtv file that it was using DSPlayer despite changing DVDPlayer to the default player. Using LAV source, splitter and video and audio I can playback wtv files fine. BTW, as opposed to normal files, there is no "Play using..." in the context menu for playing back Live TV recordings.
So I was concerned that perhaps DSPlayer was being used to play the Live stream from ServerWMC and that was messing it up. After trying to set rules in playercorefactory.xml to ensure that wtv and ts files are played back using DVDPlayer, my logs still showed that it was using DSPlayer. So I uninstalled that build and reinstalled plain vanilla Frodo 12.3.

I ran a fresh set of tests. I ensured that remux active recordings is checked. Remux the playback of all wtv files is unchecked. I then started a recording. Stopped the recording. Played back the wtv file generated. All of this went smoothly. Went to tune to that same channel using Live TV and still got the same error Sad

I also want to thank you all for all of your time and expertise in trying to help me get this sorted out.

I meant to ask: where is 'LiveTV_EinsteinsSon_Digital Cable_1106_2014_01_30_06_00_47.ts' created?
Is there any way of me looking at that file at creation time?

when you say you played back the WTV file from the recording you started and stopped... how did you play back the WTV file (because i dont think I see that part in the logs)? Not being in the logs means you didnt play it from the LiveTV->Recordings screen... but perhaps you played it back through the normal Videos section in XBMC? Or perhaps I am not reading the log properly. I see the recording start and be stopped... but then I only see a LiveTV request (not a viewing of that recording)

Anyway... If this WTV file did play back OK in XBMC, then as per krusty's suggestion you can move on to his test. Start a recording, and then watch that IN PROGRESS recording through the LiveTV->Recordings section of XBMC? With "Remux Active Recordings" on, this should remux the WTV file to TS and play back the in progress recording. Whether this works or not will help understand what is going on.

So far it seems we have found that when you do a recording, the WTV file is good/playable. But when you watch live TV the WTV file is empty according to the remuxer. So attempting to play an in progress recording (with an assumedly good WTV file due to previous recording test) should hopefully give some more info. If it doesn't work then somehow the remuxer does not like these "valid" WTV files. If it does work then we will scratch our heads more, because there isnt too much difference between watching a live stream and watching an inprogress recording (in both cases we are recording the channel to WTV file and remuxing it to TS)...

The playback of the wtv file happens at lines 244-288 in XBMC3.log. The LiveTV request follows.

Indeed, starting a recording and then going to watch it via 'Live TV->Recordings->* Recording Now' seems to work. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks.

When you can, find the 'tempxbmc' folder inside your 'recorded tv' folder (it may be hidden). Inside that folder is another folder called 'savedfordebug'. This folder should have failed live-tv runs (wtv files). See if these files are playable either by wmc or xbmc.

Hi,
Well I wasn't very systematic but everything works now, but I don't know what it was that fixed it.
I've been doing all of the testing on my work desktop. I have a separate HTPC downstairs that was also running swmc but that machine was working OK. So I went down there and shutdown swmc. I also power cycled the HDHomerun Prime. I changed the port on my work machine both in swmc and in pvr.wmc. After doing this, I was able to successfully tune to a Live TV channel. I then restarted swmc on the HTPC and made sure that I could still tune Live TV and I can. I'm not sure if playing around with the other machine had anything to do with it since both are using localhost to connect swmc and pvr.wmc.

I don't have a savedfordebug folder currently appearing in tempxbmc, however I suspect it's because it's because it's not failing anymore.

I really appreciate all of your time working with me on this only to arrive at this kind of unsatisfactory conclusion. But at least I now have it working. If it's anything in consolation, I certainly learned a lot about how the pvr clients work with XBMC.
