Win AAC 2.0 : crackling sound when using SPDIF passtrough
#1
Music
Hi,

I encounter a problem with sound (since Frodo i think, Gotham too. I didn't took time to search solution until yesterday) :

When playing movie with AAC 2.0 i hear an annoying crackling on most dialog.
No problem with AAC 5.1 MP3 's encoded movie.

My setup: Xbmc nightlie 20140121
Htpc : Acer Revo with turtle beach audio advantage micro providing SPDIF output (this one: http://www.notebookreview.com/notebookre...view-pics/ )
Xbmc audio setup: Wasapi spdif

I tested this:
2.0 ACC movie with AAC passtrough enabled : crackling
2.0 ACC movie with ACC Passtrough disabled : ok
2.0 mp3 movie with ACC passtrough enabled : ok
5.1 AAC movie with AAC pathrough enabled : ok (need to enable the new "alway use 5.1 passthrough" in xbmc settings

i didn't try uninstall turtlebeach drivers

Thank you

Can your AVR decode and process AAC by itself? You might want to disable it and let XBMC decode it instead.....
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

Yes, but when i uncheck audio passtrough i loose 5.1 aac movies are downmixed to 2.0 .

Edit: based on your reply i found someone got a solution flashing the AVR firmware (but don't sounds easy / safe: the firmeware update must me burned on audio cd and played through SPDIF ! )

If someone has the same receiver (Yamaha RVX-461) : Here is the link , i will post succes (or brick) here later

onclebob,

I have a Yamaha RX-V467 and I updated the firmware using that method. I followed the directions and did not have a problem at all.

Good luck
