I found an older thread that seemed to touch on this but it seems that the gadget was designed to tap into the now obsolete HTTP API so there's no way that's going to work anymore.
Are you guys aware of any development on this front? The reason I ask is that I've got a nice rainmeter skin for my desktop of my HTPC and it would be really slick if I could control XBMC from a little widget on the desktop...nothing complicated really, even just a basic play-stop-pause-rew-ff and volume interface would be sweet. It would mainly be for music really because it doesn't make much sense to need to control a video in a window you aren't even using -lol
