Just wondering if when you scrape your media, does it resize the images down?
I know on imdb for example, the images range from 500x750 to much larger than the preferred 1000x1500. I was wondering if when downloaded does xbmc save the files at a smaller size especially for android devices.
I linked my new tablet up to my main htpc, but worried that when I scrape it my database will be 2.06gb in size like on my PC in which case I'll have to skip scraping because I'll take up too much space.

Nothing specific to Android.
If your data is 2Gb on your PC, it probably will be the same size on Android with the same sources.

Bummer...
Looking through the thumbnail folders on my PC (clicked thumbnails and searched for *.jpg to bring everything up), I noticed that, apart from background images, the images were 720 and under for height... didn't see any that were 1000x1500 for posters which I know there should be a lot of (I've personally uploaded over 1000 images to IMDB so I know some of them should be that size).
That's why I figured on import, XBMC must shrink them down keeping the original aspect ratio, then save them. Thought (hoped) maybe if on an android device, since they're all under 12" in size, maybe XBMC for Android shrinks them down to half that size to save space.

You can do this manually using the art-res tags in
advancedsettings.xml (wiki)

Hmm, seems handy. And that will work on Android? Just got mine a few days ago so still not sure fully how it works. But if I can make a file for it that will cache the images at say 360 height for posters, and fanart at 540, it should look fine on my Nexus 10, and be much smaller.

I'm thinking this is a windows only thing? since directions seem to point at the users folder in the C:\.
No, it works on all XBMC platforms. The note is just about Windows users needing to make sure they use the right folder in their setup. For the location in other platforms you just click on the
userdata folder (wiki) link.

So, since I only need the file for fanart/posters, if I make the advancedsettings.xml file, it would be a very small file of about 4 lines correct? Like this
<advancedsettings>
<imageres>240</imageres>
<fanartres>480</fanartres>
</advancedsettings>
Posters would be 240 high, and background art 480 high? Can't be that simple can it?

Yup, it's that simple. Obviously it only applies to newly cached stuff though. You can look at MilhouseVH's scripts on how to clear things out though (or alternatively, delete Textures*.db and images will re-generate where they can).

Luckily all I've done so far was add the sources, I haven't set content or scraped anything.
I know the FAQ shows that the path is "usually" located at
.../android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc/userdata/
Mine ends at .../files/ so should I just make the sub folders /.xbmc/userdata/ and drop the file there? Then start up xbmc, set content and scrape away?

If you've run XBMC the userdata folder will be there already. If it's not, it could be somewhere else. Keep searching.

Nope, no where to be found. Using Astro file manager and used the search feature to find user data and it doesn't find it either. XBMC does run, I can play videos over WiFi from my server and I setup the weather app. Restarted my tablet, went in and all my settings for the app are there.
Does the folder get recreated when XBMC gets opened? Wondering maybe if one of the cleaner apps I tried may have deleted something.
EDIT - well, did a full uninstall, restarted the tablet, installed the app, went in and added back the folders, weather settings, etc... Still no signs of /.xbmc/userdata/

Wow... really saved me some space.
Desktop computer is 2.6GB for the thumbnail folder, the Android is 406MB. Changed my file a little
<advancedsettings>
<imageres>240</imageres>
<fanartres>360</fanartres>
</advancedsettings>
Bit grainy but, looks good enough and saved me over 2GB space. Kinda debating backing up my stuff, then making a custom file as a test on my desktop as well... 500px for posters and 720px for fanart... maybe save some space and may speed up a bit if small files.
Thanks for the help.
