What’s a virtual appliance?

“A virtual appliance is a pre-built software solution, comprised of one or more virtual machines that is packaged, maintained, updated, and managed as a unit. Virtual appliances are fundamentally changing how software is developed, distributed, deployed, and managed.

Virtual appliances are packaged, deployed, managed, and maintained as a unit. They will run on VMware vSphere, VMware Infrastructure (VI), VMware Workstation, VMware Fusion, VMware Server, and VMware Player.”

Note: I'm a long time XBMC & Usenet user (since 2002) and I'm blown away by the software/solution offerings available today. Tretflix is my way of giving back to the community that's been so good to me over the years. Enjoy!

Going to try this soon.
Any way you can add Mylar to the build as well? https://github.com/evilhero/mylar

Cool! Let me know what you think. I'll add Mylar to my feature request/implementation plans list.

I just found this thread and want to thank you for this great product.
But I also have some little questions: Is it safe to update the appliance to the actual Ubuntu LTS (14.04.1) without breaking anything? And is there any kind of an update automatic for the applications outside APT (like CouchPotato, Headphones, an so on)? Is an updated appliance planned by you?

You've created a very very clever solution, thank you. Wink
