myCloud WD streaming flv

Question
Hi to all of u!

First I'm not sure this is the right place for asking this, but it's hardware, so...

Intro:
I've been using mediacenters for a while, or, better, i've been using mediacenters applications for a while (probably a sort of 5/6 years or more), using external drives for storing files (i know it's not the best thing in the world) or computers attached to my wifi network, but now, with my restricted budget, i decided to do the extra mile and use a nas (the one in the title) to stream/maintain my huge catalog.

Main question:
my catalog contains film in different formats: avi (xvid/divx - h264/h263), mp4 (h264), and now a lot of flv (due to lack of space), most in low resolution (max 480p) (so very low bitrate), just a few mp4 in 720/1080p.
i've seen that you can stream with twonky these files (flv too (*)) to an htpc running xbmc (or ur enemy mediaportal Tongue ) using dlna.
but here (**) it says that twonky doesn't support flv.
i've seen that some other people can't reach the dlna share on xbmc (***).
has anyone any experiences with that hardware?
suggestions?
is using samba so punishing for performances?
(or suggestions to get another nas with 3Tb for less than 168€ that get better results?)

(just to avoid answer not needed: i've already get flv to work on networks but only with samba.)

Thanks to all of u!

The only reason to use DLNA is if your device does not support direct shares (SMB, NFS, FTP, etc) or your device does not support the codec type you are streaming and you require transcoding.

Since the My Cloud doesn't transcode (and even if it did it would have poor performance doing so since the FW is on the HDD and not NAND) and apparently your device supports direct shares there is no reason for you to use Twonky/DLNA.

If your worried about stream rate, use NFS rather than SMB since it has less overhead.

I can stream full 1080p mkv/h.264 to all my devices from a 2TB MC over a wired Gigabit network using NFS without any issues (well........, as long as the issues aren't on the device side).

thank u for the reply!
what about the issues on the device? I've seen on the forum (wd my community) that a lot of people are reporting problems with the remote access, but not many issues with local streaming. Are u having problems on that side too?
what firmware are u using for now?
I didn't buy it for now...
