My Ultimate Mac Mini Theater

Hi Friends,

Just wanted to share some updated YouTube videos of my XBMC/Plex-based media system I've built at home in my spare time (I call it "ClusterBox" because it's a mishmash of software/hacks to make an awesome home theater Smile). These videos discuss in-car integration, open-source LED demonstrations, automatic content downloading workflows, Hulu, Netflix, Pandora & Spotify user experiences, etc. etc.

Check it out and let me know what you think! Love chatting with like minds about this stuff.

Cheers World!

I. ClusterBox 2.0 Intro [Mac Mini Home Theater] (Kinda boring, might want to skip, sorry.)
II. ClusterBox 2.0 Hardware & Remote [Mac Mini Home Theater]
III. ClusterBox 2.0 Web Server [Mac Mini Home Theater]
IIII ClusterBox 2.0 iPad in the Car

Whoa! Weird. The Fork is owned by Mr. Orange (specifically it's his branch called pistachios). However, these branches are missing from his github profile as of last week?!? Here is link to original forum post when Mr Orange debuted this fork to the world. See on page 193 that as of April 16th people are wondering what happened to his fork!... http://sickbeard.com/forums/viewtopic.ph...start=1920

This fork is so great because it intelligently handles failed TV downloads (similar to what couchpotato does). i.e. When a TV show fails to download in SABnzbd, SickBeard will immediately download the "next" version floating out on the web. It's fantastic! I've pinged the original developer of this failed download handling logic and asked to to contact Mr. Orange. https://github.com/Tolstyak/Sick-Beard/issues/56

I would just like to remind you that paying for Usenet etc doesn't make it any less illegal. The licensees that provide content from WB, Universal, HBO still don't get paid.

For other users wanting an all-in-one solution I see there are things like http://flawless-server.com/ out there.

Edit: Very nice setup. Clean and simple Smile

I touch on this in the video and certainly understand this. It would be a fantastic problem to solve and I've spend literally hundreds of hours thinking about how this can be done. I've spent much of today writing down my thoughts about this here: http://bradrobertdavis.wordpress.com/issp/

Today I decided to consolidate all my ideas and side projects onto this site as a portfolio, blog, resume, etc. Certainly not ready for release quite yet, but here ya go if interested.

Interesting concept, though the issue for content providers is protecting their intellectual properties from piracy. I don't think you necessarily need a new protocol, rather a more flexible API for DRM technologies that won't harm consumers. The way it is today you either use proprietary technology such as Silverlight or HTML5's DRM. The problem with the latter is that the internet (maybe inevitably) will become more and more closed. Big corporations such as Google, Netflix and Microsoft are essentially going to decide how the future of our internet will be. https://dvcs.w3.org/hg/html-media/raw-fi...media.html

I don't know how this will turn out, but hopefully it will be better for us than the current situation.

Well to start.. Greed is an inherent challenge with our species. Creating the perfect DRM solution is like chasing our tails.

I guess my point is, big public corps are fueled by greed and financial profit, not to re-imagine their own industry. It's because of this that big corps have NOT built a good solution, and instead wasted their time solving the wrong problem (example: IP, DRM) while greedy piracy evolves. The solution is to give the people what they want. Someone crazy and smart enough to build what I'm describing will alter the way piracy functions years down the line.

If we're lucky a big company will fund you, but they don't run my future internet. Smile The internet is my canvas and we built it.

I'll soon be writing about a concept of mine I call, "The Othernet". It's been on my mind a few years now and it will also thwart piracy while increasing privacy.
