Bug Crashes when playing first video after XBMC boots
#1
This problem started on Gotham Beta 3 (my first upgrade to Gotham) and then continued in Beta 4. I posted here looking for help and didn't get any response. Now the RC1 is out and the problem persists. I'm really getting frustrated with this and hope someone smarter than me can at least point me in the right direction.

Issue: XBMC is crashing when playing most videos after the first starting the program. For example, if I play 12 Years a Slave, XBMC crashes. If I play 9, XBMC crashes. If I play 2 Guns, XBMC lags a big, plays audio and no video. Stopping 2 Guns, and starting playback makes the file play normally (video and audio). After I manage to get one file to play normally, the previous problematic files no longer crash. (So if 30 Minutes or Less is crashing, I can start 2 Guns, stop it, and then play 30 Minutes or Less without a crash).

This happens on my main/server PC but doesn't happen on my laptop streaming from the said server PC.
Here's some (hopefully) useful info:
XBMC 13.0-RC1 Git:20140427-2372235 (Compiled: April 27, 2014)
Windows 8.1 with Media Center
Intel Core i5-3470 3.20GHz, 64bit
8GB DDR3
ATI Radeon HD 3870, driver version 8.97.10.6
Realtek High Definition Audio, driver version 6.0.1.6710

Debug Logs:

Additionally, I have a crashlog.dmp file and four stacktrace.txt files. Three of those are empty. The fourth says: Thread 2620 (process 4020)
# 0 avpriv_color_frame

Here is the dmp file in case that's also useful.

Anything at all that I can do to get this fixed... more logs, more examples, more info, my firstborn child, whatever you need... This is killing me that it's only causing a problem on my main PC and not any others.

The stacktrace will contain some usefull information when you download the xbmc.pdb file for the version you use (place it next to xbmc.exe).
Unfortunately the dmp file mostly won't contain much information. It might be that your case is already work in progress (see https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/4584 ) but the stacktrace would still be nice to see if we can prevent XBMC from crashing which shouldn't happened if CreateVideoDecoder fails.

Thanks for the quick reply.

So where do I find xbmc.pdb? And when I get it, just put it in the folder with the exe and recreate the bug?

Also, that link is coming up 404 for me.

Link fixed. For the rc1 release the pdb file is here: http://mirrors.xbmc.org/releases/win32/x...am_rc1.pdb .
Rename it to xbmc.pdb, place it next to xbmc.exe (in the same folder) and recreate the behavior.

Thanks to both of you. I'll see if I have time after work to put the xbmc.pdb and recreate the problem. I'm wondering if I should move my issue to that other thread? I'm not too good at reading the log and seeing the exact problem. Also, I was thinking about upgrading my graphics card anyway. So maybe I can find a thread about working graphics cards before I buy one.

All modern graphics cards should work perfectly with the xbmc.

Thanks. I started a thread here asking if anyone had experience with the cards I'm looking into (and also for general advice if they have any). But for now, until I bite the bullet and buy a new card, I hope to see this issue fixed.

Renamed the pdb file to xbmc.pdb and put it next to the xbmc.exe file. Recreated the problem and got some stacktrace files but they are still empty.
