Fanless board to replace my ASRock A330ION
#1
So for the last 4 years I've been running XBMC on a ASRock A330ION board with 2GB RAM, and a 60GB 2,5" drive.
This has been working great as I stream all my files from a NAS.

However, as hardware prices keep sinking, i'd like to go to a fanless build, but as I've been out of the hardware-game for a long time i'd like your advice for a board.

What it should do:
- Provide equal or better performance compared to my Ion-board (As long as it plays my bluray-rips without dropping frames, and can pas all audio through to my receiver I'm happy.
- Be silent (No fans!)
- Fit into my case that comes with it's own PSU: http://www.amazon.de/dp/B001NQ6E6O/ref=a...B001NQ6E6O
- Be as hassle free to upgrade as possible (I run XBMCbuntu, but have some scripts installed for my DIY Ambilight and Harmony remote setup I'd like to keep.)

Can someone recommend me a decent solution?

Asrock ASRock Q1900B-ITX Celeron J1900 G SI Motherboard ήχου HDMI VGA G-LAN SATA2 USB 3.0

or this for Quad Core
http://www.amazon.de/ASRock-Q1900-ITX-J1...J22PW328AV

ASRock Q1900-ITX ITX J1900 2DDR3 (SO-DIMM), Q1900-ITX

But i would install a silent fan to the case ...

Also cant comment on how hassle free would be the installation of XBMC Ubuntu...
Maybe go openelec?
(also you would need to buy Ram and if you can afford - an SSD)

My Q1900B-ITX is in a fanless case smaller than that one and doesn't even get warm to the touch.

Thanks for the info, these seem to be the newest generation Bay trail boards. I can't find too much info on compatability yet, so I think I'll wait a month or two.

There is a whole thread here with people talking about their use of these bay trails boards. you might want to take a look. Few issues, it seems. None, for me. (but my needs may not be average, I don't do PVR, I don't do 3D, and I have no HDMI receiver).

Ok, decision has been made.

I've sold my Asrock Ion board + 2 GB RAM for €60, and bought this for €119,9:

1 3263500 2GB DDR3-1600 CL9 SO-DIMM RAM - OEM

1 3044103 ADATA Premier Pro SP600 - Solid-State-Disk - 64 GB - intern - 6.4 cm ( 2.5" ) - SATA-600
ADATA Premier Pro SP600 - Solid-State-Disk - 64 GB - intern - 6.4 cm ( 2.5" ) - SATA-600

1 3995772 ASRock Q1900B-ITX - Motherboard - Mini-ITX - Intel J1900 - USB 3.0 - Gigabit LAN
ASRock Q1900B-ITX - Motherboard - Mini-ITX - Intel J1900 - USB 3.0 - Gigabit LAN - Onboard-Grafik - HD Audio (6-Kanal)

Not a bad upgrade for a net cost of €59,9 I think Wink

Hello EdBanger,

Did you get the ASRock Q1900B-ITX Motherboard working in your ASRock 330 case? Did you run into any issues? Do all the connectors (power, disks, mounting points, etc.) fit ok onto the new motherboard? Is the power supply able to power the new motherboard ok? What about cooling? And what did you do about the back panel? Did you cut out new holes to fit the socket layout of the new motherboard?

Thanks in advance for your help!
