Ir over Ethernet
#1
Hi I have a black magic TV card working with npvr as a back end and is working great. I also have a hauppauge colossus working with npvr to stream cable throughout the house it is also working great, but I would like to be able to change the channel without having to go into a different room and also without running more cables. All of my xbmc boxes are linked via cat6 cable. I was hoping to find something like this

But over Ethernet instead of HDMI.
Any suggestions or does it not exist? (I tried to post in the off topic area but did not have permission)

Thanks for the reply, yeah it is a bit more expensive than I was hoping for. I should have included that the Ethernet needs to pass through (ir Ethernet injector) as the cat6 cable is used on the nuc's in room to stream the video files from the server. But if that is the price without pass through I think I will just keep going into the living room to change the channel.

What about this, it's only $37.95 and just wire up the reciever with cat3, cat5e or cat6.

Yeah nice suggestion it is this or http://www.amazon.co.uk/POWERMID-EXTRA-R...s=powermid
I don't know why but I thought that a ir Ethernet injector would have been simple cheap and popular (seeing that ir HDMI injectors are common) but guess I am wrong.
I suppose I could have a go at making one

Have you checked to see if the cable box can be controlled by some other means like serial?

I have to say that I am surprised that npvr doesn't change the channel for you. Mythtv certainly does, when a client wants a different channel the backend changes it. It can use an arbitrary script to do so, including one that activates an ir blaster which you point at your cable box.
