Let me start by saying I've read around 20 threads and I'm still stuck on how to fix this issue. Right now there is no sound and the emulator launches in the small window.

I know running XBMCbuntu is running a dedicated operating system without the capabilities needed. For some reason I can't get solo mode to work or any other method to get it in a full window and have sound.

Rcb's solo mode (my preferred way of running emulators) won't work in the xbmc session in xbmcbuntu as it quits xbmc. For sound with emulators while xbmc is running see here http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/15112
Basically you need to setup the emulator sound output to the correct device.
For full screen most emulators have a command line switch to force fullsvreen.
