I have programmed an xbox one media remote with flirc, and it navigates my menus and everything fine,but when I use an app such as netflix or mashup, if I use the search function, the arrow keys don't move around the letters on either the remote or the keyboard. I have to physically type using keyboard.

Is there a way to change this?

try Settings > System > Input Devices > Remote Control Sends Keyboard Presses

Set this to on and your remote will navigate the on screen keyboard
