Release Sprout Pre-School Channel Addon
#16
Updated version of Sprout addon in my git:
https://github.com/learningit/plugin.video.sprout

V1.0.8 includes fixed content views, better meta-data and subtitles

This version requires a 5-6 Mbps internet link and a version of Kodi which has ssl support in ffmpeg. Windows is fine, Android and some other platforms require Kodi 15.0 which has ffmpeg builds with gnutls or openssl to support ssl. Users outside the US need a VPN service such Hotspot Shield.

Hi learningit, Thanks for doing this man! My daughter's favorite channel is Sprout and she has been missing it dearly. I currently have KODI 14.2 - how can I get your Sprout Ad-on to work? Is there an easy way to get my KODI to have ssl support in ffmpeg? I am running KODI on a Razor Forge and a FireTV box.

thanks!

The easiest/best way is probably to upgrade to Kodi 15.0. I've found both BETA1 and BETA2 quite stable and the android versions have https support.

I spent the night updating KODI 15 and restoring all the settings. I was a dimwit and didn't use the backup tool so I manually grabbed everything via FTP. So KODY 15 worked in the morning, but hasn't worked since! It hangs on a blank screen and then says "Sprout Error check log for more information"

Unrelated question, I copied a video plugin folder from my ad ons folder into my new install and it doesn't boot up. It says script error. Anyone know why?

I'm not sure why the upgrade was so difficult. If you follow the instructions on the Fire TV wiki page your settings are retained as well as all the addons which you installed previously - no backup is required (I'd recommend it though). Takes about 5 mins to complete including the download.

HOW-TO:Install_Kodi_on_Fire_TV (wiki)

Anyway, if you load your debug log when running the addon to xbmclogs.com or pastebin.com, I'll take a look.

Yeah, I did that. Here were my steps and fixes:
1. Installed KODI 15 via Google Play store online to Razer Forge.
2. The install corrupted KODI 14.2, KODI wouldn't even open anymore.
3. Downloaded the 15 ARM pak and installed it, but there was an error "Conflicting name" or something.
4. Uninstalled KODI 14.2 altogether after going in and downloading all the XML settings via Quick View.
5. Installed 15 fresh, then searched for all the Add-Ons I had. then dropped in all XML settings.
6. Finally got Sprout up and running.
7. Did the same thing to my Fire TV box>
8. Went to bed at 3am LOL

Woke up, tested both boxes with Sprout and they worked!
Will try and find debug file, don't know how to do that just yet...

Please DO NOT post logs in the forum. Use xbmclogs.com or pastebin.com. The above is pretty much useless, you need to post the entire log.
You need to enable debug logging under Settings->System->Debugging . Please also enable Component-specific logging for libCURL.

Also, are you in the US? If not, you need to have a VPN or proxy to run this.

Sorry! Should I PM you the link?

Weird, it works again. So why does it work in the mornings and not later in the day?

There's no need to PM the link, just put the link in the forum post - that way everyone benefits from the solution to the problem.

Looking at your log, I don't actually see you playing any of the links, but I do see the addon correctly processing the website to get directory items. You may want to try playing something - that's the real test for whether or not the player is supporting https, as well as whether or not a VPN or proxy is needed. I also don't see any errors, so I haven't a clue about time of day issues, more likely the system needed a reboot to run properly.

Thanks, I'll try again tonight and see if I can replicate the problem.

That's not a complete log. It jumps between 2316 and 2318 right where I need to see what's going on. It's possible that your cpu can't manage the load of a 1080p feed at 6mbps, which may also explain teh gap in the log. If you have audio, but no video basically the addon has done it's job and it's up to the Kodi player. I think I saw that you have a Fire TV, I know that the addon works fine on a Amazon Fire Stick, so you might try it on that.

I'll try and replicate the problem again. Yes, it works fine on both Amazon Fire TV and Razer Forge. Both running KODI 15. But on this G-Box Q the only thing I can't get to work is the Sprout addon. There must be a way! Maybe it's the firmware on the G-Box?
