Is there a special folder that will persist between addon version upgrades that can also be automatically uninstalled? So far I see only the options to write to speciial:/temp or create folders in the plugin tree.

That sounds like userdata/addon_data where add-on settings are stored
I am not sure how uninstalling an addon influences this folder - you need to test that out.

Thanks I will give it a try in special://masterprofile/addon_data and see how the uninstall works. The code doesn't look like much is removed automatically except links in favourites.xml

Mod: I thought I posted python development if it can be moved that would be great.
