Stream to xbmc from Desktop
#1
Hello

This is a pretty naive question, i know.
Is it somehow possible to stream a Video from my Desktop(WIndows/Linux) to xbmc running on a rpi?
Like for example tell vlc to output it somehow on the xbmc connected to my TV via upnp for example.

thanks in advance

You can. I don't think VLC can act like a UPnP server, but you can place a VLC stream URL in a text file, call it "video.strm" (or anything .strm) and XBMC will open the file. If you are wanting to share a video then it would just be easier to use normal file sharing (wiki), but you can use VLC. It's good for situations like video capturing or having to transcode.

Thanks so far.
What i am looking for is a way to click a file in the explorer/an app on my Desktop and say "play on xbmc", without having to navgate in xbmc to a file.
A way to send a file from outside to xbmc and make xbmc play it.
