Yes, it does have an 3.5 mm mini jack optical SPDIF audio out in the back.
The friend that I'm setting this up for has a A/V Receiver with HDMI inputs in his living room but in his bedroom his receiver only has optical SPDIF.
I like the mini barebone as opposed to building my own case/mobo/cpu setup.

I think it's enough to run 1080 blue ray rips and run heavy skin

it looks good but in all honesty i never get why you want to buy something that can only be use for one purpose i would rather spend the money and get a proper HTPC where you are not limited to a particular OS because of compatibility or performance issues sure it is smaller and maybe quieter but i would rather take something i could upgrade and adjust as needed.
I feel the same about Laptops if you are working outdoors or mobile like a salesmen or something or have to move from place to place sure i get why you would need one but if you are just sitting in one spot at a desk or at home a Desktop is so much better
these are all IMHO of course each to their own i just personally prefer performance and customization of neat and tiny or shiny

Neat, tiny and shiny are the side effects benefit of what the actual requirement is.
I'm making an appliance. It MUST BE simple, reliable and quiet. This is not a hardware hobbyist that I'm making it for. It is for a movie and tv show enthusiast.
So, $200 for a box RIGHT NOW, and when 4K is the standard, $200 for a new box. rinse and repeat.
So I gather that this can run OpenElec and a heavy skin.
