The error you're getting (Device or resource busy) has something to do with Kodi keeping the audio device active thus preventing squeezelite to open in it (exclusive?) mode. I am getting a similar issue Kodi and squeezelite both fighting for the same device. You may want to try disabling "Keep Audio Device Alive" in Kodi and running squeezelite in a SSH session. Still trying to figure out the best solution myself.

Yes, that allows squeezelite to run from CLI.  But that also makes user experience pretty horrible, since the amplifier is clicking (loudly) on and off with every button click.
