PVR-Series Recording
#1
Hello-
I have searched the forum and can't seem to find an answer to my question. I am wondering if there is a way to enable series recording in the skin in the PVR settings? I'm running ServerWMC as my client and I can find the option in other skins. I love the skin but setting up a series recording is pretty important to me. Does anyone know if there is a way to modify the skin to allow this like I've seen for other skins? Thanks!

Could you make some screenshots where the option shows up in other skins, and tell me which version of XBMC or Kodi you are running?

I wasn't aware there was series support and without PVR myself it is hard to keep up with changes on the area.

Thanks for the speedy response, Kib! I'm running Gotham 13.1. This image probably shows best what I'm talking about.

A prompt like this does not come up. It just records that one episode at that specific time rather than allowing you the option to record the series

Huh. I guess we are missing some screen, but I thought we had everything that was required in 13.

I'll see what I can do, unless @Bumpaneer beats me to it

In the pvr.wmc install directory there are 2 files in the confluence/720p directory, these files need to be edited to work with your skin and put in your skin directory. HTH

Ah so this is a PVR.wmc issue, not correctly falling back to a default if you don't use confluence

Please ask the PVR.wmc author to fix this.

I might still have a look, but knowing it is an add-on providing the skin element means the add-on should fix it.

I found this from the pvr.wmc Wiki.

I am unable to set and delete series recordings - These actions can be performed directly through the WMC interface. This can also be done directly through XBMC though Confluence is the only skin directly supported at this time. Please see Enabling 'set series recording' and 'cancel series recording' for information on enabling this feature within XBMC.

It doesn't seem like they are supporting what you are talking about with regards to falling back to a default. I am not proficient at all with skinning but could you tell me how I might be able to hack it to work myself? I love the Neon skin and would prefer to use it as my default, but I just started using my XBMC box as my cablebox/PVR.

The problem is that XBMC has no inbuilt support for series recording so any solution is left to the pvr addon author. Hopefully in the future this will change but for now this is the only way to make it work. Several other skin authors have already added the needed files to their skins.

The problem is that the pvr.wmc author did not select any of the included skin files to be used in case the skin selected by the user was not provided for.
Eg. there is no fallback.

It has been possible for quite some time now for an addon to load its own skin files. Appareantly they are not choosing for this but opting to let the users manually modify their own skins.
Seems bothersome to me.

Hi Kib,

I'm the pvr.wmc author. As far as I know (but would love to proven wrong) there is no 'included skin' for enabling series recording, but there is a fallback: if the skin file is not available, series recording is turned off, which is normal xbmc behavior.

Like Dilligaf says, xbmc does not have any ability to setup series recordings, but many of the users of our addons require it (I know I do). So the only way we can give this feature to our users is to provide a custom series-enabling dialog skin. All of the pvr authors who do this just provide a custom confluence skin. If the user wants to use a different skin - and do series recording - they either need to create the xml themselves or come begging to the skin authors to support it. That's how we get to here.

We all hope series recording will be standard in helix, but until then here we are.

What I don't get is why you don't load the skin files from the add-on itself like lazytv and spotimc do. Is that not possible because of the way PVR works in XBMC?

There are no skins in the addon to add. Pvr addons are different than normal xbmc addons, they are all compiled c++.

I also needed neon (great skin btw) to work with the pvr addon (swmc), namely the series recording part. I made a couple of adjustments to neon's PVR section to bring it more in tune with my liking. Check out this thread:

If you need any of the xml files I use, just let me know. I would be happy to share them. Neon is by far my favorite skin. It just needs a little more TLC in the PVR section. Big Grin

Sure, since neither of the devs have PVR it is almost impossible to check.

@krustyreturns I know that PVR addon's are compiled, I just wonder why they can't include skinning elements.

Mitg3t...does that offer extend to normal joes? Smile. I would love to check out your live tv changes to the neon skin.
