Any thoughts on adding commercial skip

None taken :p

Yes it's true you can't set it up in the UI so I wondered if that was all that turned you off or if you had technical issues with the actual logic/implementation

Even though I'm a text editor guy from way back, I find that for those one-off things that I'm not going to use all the time, I just don't have the interest anymore. So I've become a gui-newb. Smile

For whoever was asking, here is a picture of how to set up dirmon2 to monitor your directoryand launch comskip.
EDIT: note that I liked to set my comskip up to use EDL before xbmc buggered that up and didnt fix it for gotham. So a normal install would not reference EDL, but instead TXT.

I use the donator version of MCEBuddy with Donator Comskip and it works wonderfully.

The only thing is that MCEBuddy needs to be on its own machine because it will use all the resources and ServerWMC will not work while its running. So, I ended up taking down my Ubuntu Plex server and putting it on my Windows 7 machine with ServerWMC and let MCEBuddy have the old Linux server (Now with Windows 7) and everything has been great.

I thought there was some kind of 'play nice' mode in MCEBuddy, that makes it less of a resource hog when its analyzing wtvs - at least I recall someone mentioning it, I have no experience with it myself.

I am new to Kodi and am not sure how to implement the use of Comskip and MCEBuddy. I have purchased the donor versions of both. If I follow sbthomas set up, I am not sure how Kodi will know how to use the EDL files on playback of the recordings. I would appreciate a pointer on how this is set up. Are there settings one must do in Kodi? I am Win 8.1, NextPVR, and Kodi 14.2

Thanks
John

Kodi automatically uses the EDL information if it's present (named identically to the video file but with EDL extension)

I am working to get ComSkip working

I think I have it working but I noticed that the Wiki says that it supports the (chapters.xml files / beyondTV files)
http://kodi.wiki/view/Edit_decision_list

Are you guys using the .txt extension?

@scarecrow420

Do you have a link to where / how I would configure the ServerWMC to initiate the comskip process?

I currently use DirMon2 like bluenote posted but in an effort to optimize resources it may be best to configure ServerWMC to kick off the ComSkip process to minimize the number of backgroup processes running at any given time.

I use .edl files generated from comskip and they work great. There is a secret in that you need to change the edl_skip_field in comskip.ini to 3. For me this makes everything behave well.

What's the difference from the way that edl files get handled as opposed to comskip .txt

Nice. This info needs to get out there since it seems no one cares to fix broken edl support. If I remember I will add it to the wiki. If you have an account created maybe you could?

I added a note to the EDL page in the wiki so people don't have to bang their heads against the wall with EDL file. Thanks for the tip.
