Does anyone know if it is possible to have more than one tvheadend server backend available to a xmbc client.That is, to add more than one instance of the htsp tvheadend add-on. This to enable more mixes on a multi client network .

There's only one way to connect to two tvheadend backends simultaneously and that is to recompile the second addon with a different name (the name has to be changed in various places). If you're running both servers on your internal network, the best way to connect them is to add the URLs for each multiplex on one server as an IPTV source on the other. If they're not on the same network you can still do the same thing if you have lots of bandwidth available, but otherwise you can add one IPTV "mux" for each service on the other server.

I added a second Tvheadend backend as a video source the following way:

Videos -> Files -> Add Videos -> Browse -> Add network location
-> Protocol -> select HTS Tvheadend client
-> Server address -> enter address of second Tvheadend backend
-> OK

Select the network location just added
-> slelect Live channels -> OK
-> enter the name of the media source ->OK

Now I can watch live TV using that second Tvheadend backend via this media source.
