the chrome box does have s3 state if you flash with Matt coreboot firmware and all intel nuc have all the s3,s4,s5 state. i just bought a broadwell i5 nuc and it's work wonderfully, except the ir sensor doesn't work on openelec yet, but that doesn't bother me, i just have to disable it and use my usb mce dongle.

Unfortunately the cheapest Broadwell NUC looks like twice the price of the UN42 in the UK, e.g.

Broadwell-based devices are just starting to trickle to market - you'll have to wait a bit for cheaper Celeron 3205U/3755U based ones.

Could get the barebones but doesn't come with Windows, so with the Ram and ssd to buy also, it is getting a bit pricey.

30GB SSD £23.82

4GB Memory £26.14
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-KVR16S1...B008CP5R8K

Both from the certified list. That brings the total hardware cost to £170, so still a fair bit cheaper than the Windows version from ebuyer.

If you wanted more storage there's this one...
128GB SSD £51.22 (in stock 12th March)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sandisk-Enterpri...B00CIDIRTI

The total price would then be about the same as the WIndows version, but with 2x the RAM and 4x the storage.

Thanks Leopold.

What advantage will those have over the 4th gen variant in this and Chromebox?

I really think this device is legit, but the nvidia gpu is a no dice 4 me. So, can I do a external gpu dock? Because I can build a tasty system for $315 with a external gpu. I just need to know if I can use an external gpu dock.

sorry, no idea what you're talking about w/r/t "gpu dock." And no one has tested/compared the Broadwell Celeron to the Haswell one, though one could extrapolate based on the comparisons of the Broadwell Core i3 vs the Haswell i3.

I think CoolKeith is referring to being able to put a PCI-E GPU card in an external enclosure. This is possible with Thunderbolt (on Macbook Pros, and I guess - theoretically - the first gen NUCs which had Thunderbolt).

I guess it might also be possible with Mini-PCI-E to PCI-E adaptor like this : http://linitx.com/product/ablytech-mini-...ided/13206 but you only get 1 PCI-E lane, and still have to sort out power and mounting etc. I think it is a non-starter for a GPU, though for something like a DVB card or a sound card it might be worth investigating in very odd situations.

Far more trouble than they're worth in my opinion though...
