Analog cable TV to kodi
#1
I recently purchased a television that doesn't come with a TV tuner built in. I'm in Canada and am still using simple analog cable (Rogers). Ideally instead of purchasing an external cable box, I'd like to buy a TV tuner card and watch TV through kodi. I've read briefly that it can handle PVR functions, so I would assume that it would be able to capture, display, and change channels of a TV tuner card. Is this true? If so, I'll head out an purchase a card asap. I'm using Windows btw...

Thanks!

XBMC can be used in conjuction with another program to display live/recorded TV in windows. For the analog cable tuner, take a look at the silicon dust hdhomerun.

Also, look at the Windows Media Center backend and XBMC plugin. http://forum.kodi.tv/forumdisplay.php?fid=205

Yep, you're right. I was too enthusiastic in recommending the HDHR.

NTSC tuners are getting hard to find. If you can't find a card for a reasonable price you might consider a USB tuner.

I just picked up a cheap Hauppauge 2250 so I'll toss that into my server and from what I've briefly read should be able to send to kodi over the network. Any recommendations on TV tuner server software for Windows that will work well with kodi? I'm concerned mainly with stability and how quickly the channels will change Smile. I have no need for PVR functionality etc.

I highly recommend the WMC server/plugin.
