Android Minix Neo X7 - 720p streaming problem
#1
Hi everyone, new XBMC user here... I've just discovered XBMC and I love the software!

I am able to stream movies and tv shows easily in SD (Standart Definition). My issue is I cannot stream anything in 720p or higher. I don't think it is a connection issue since I am wired in with my cable connection at 25 MBps, I've also increased the cachemembuffersize to 300 MB. This does not look like a buffering issue, the stream does not go into buffering mode once in a while, it just randomly freeze on frames. I see a couple frames, then it freeze, then a couple more frames, then freeze for a split second, freeze, play, freeze, play, freeze... etc

Any 720p+ quality movies is just impossible to watch. I don't think the problem comes from the box either, I've tested movie playback, streamed from my PC on the network or playing from an USB drive and 720p / 1080p movies plays flawlessly. So, I've ruled out the box performance and connection problems, I am left with XBMC as the last peice of puzzle that could cause the playback issues... but I am not sure what to do from here...

I've tried to change the acceleration setting from hardware to software and tried different plugins and all combinations of on/off in that screen but nothing seems to help. It seems a little bit smoother with "software" acceleration versus hardware.. not sure why because the tooltip says software is harder on cpu -_-

My setup:
Minix Neo X7 (Quad core) running on Android 4.2.2 OS
XBMC MINIX Edition (Gotham)
25 MBps optical fiber connection
no advancedsettings but for cachemembuffersize increased to 300MB

NB. I am web programmer (coder) IRL, I understand complicated nerdy stuff, don't be shy to educate me with XBMC advanced features.
Thanks!

Test your real speed https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai....speedtest

^ Well I did the test on my PC and got constant 27 MBps download and upload.

I'll try to test on the Minix, but it should be the same results since I use the same cable and same router as on my PC...

Androids have many surprises. In order to test if your Minix has correct TCP values you will need to install "Bionic TCP Buffer Tweak" - https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai....bionictcp
Launch this app and write here what TCP values does your Minix have. Then press „Large TCP buffers“ and test your Ethernet speed again. Is it faster? Then test your streams. Are they freezing this time? (Large TCP buffer values stays until the next reboot, sleep and wake up doesn‘t count).

OK, I'll try a speedtest before and then I'll try the TCP tweak and speedtest after.
Thanks for the tip !

I installed speedtest on the minix, results: 25 MBps download, 26 MBps upload.

I also installed the TCP app, oem parameters are:
Read buffers: 524288 1048576 2097152
Write buffers: 262144 524288 1048576

I tried to activate "Large TCP buffers" but it says I dont have root access. I tried Towelroot as I did on my phone but it doesnt work with the minix :\

Not sure what the TCP setting does, but one thing I'm sure is I got enough internet speed to stream 720 or 1080 on the Minix... Confirmed by speedtest.

Any other ideas?

TCP values are OK. I see that you have tried to increase cachemembuffersize, but have you tried to decrease it to zero?

In very rare cases this may help:

http://kodi.wiki/view/Advancedsettings.xml#pvr
http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid1366031

Add this code to advancedsettings.xml, but change 5 and 10 to higher values.

Code:
<advancedsettings>
    <pvr>
        <minvideocachelevel>5</minvideocachelevel>
        <minaudiocachelevel>10</minaudiocachelevel>
    </pvr>
</advancedsettings>

I added the settings above. No luck, video still choppy. Although, I was able to play other movies with success. I've always tested the same movie (Dracula Untold) and was getting choppy results from many different streams / addons etc. But yesterday I tried a couple other random movies in 720p and they played fine.

Not sure if there's really an issue after all, might be only that Dracula movie the problem... It's very odd that it happens on different addons / different streams tho... unless they all use the same source?
Anyone in here can play Dracula Untold in HD using any XBMC addon?
